Position Description

The University of Washington Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Telehealth Services. This full-time position will be filled at the Assistant  Professor without tenure, Associate Professor without tenure or Professor without tenure level (commensurate with experience and qualifications) and will hold a senior leadership role and provide oversight of tele behavioral health clinical services across the department. Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences have an annual service period of 12 months.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has expanded its telepsychiatry consultation services with a new 24/7 provide- to-provider telepsychiatry access line for primary care physicians, community hospital providers and country and municipal correctional facilities providers with on-demand access to psychiatric and substance use order clinical consultation.  The department has faculty who participate in telehealth programs that include provider-to-provider consultation services for perinatal mental health (PAL for Mom’s), children (PAL), eConsults, collaborative care models in primary care clinics, psychiatry consultations to patients in rural hospitals, and programs offering mental health consultation in collaboration with large area employers. The department is also actively exploring expansion of outpatient behavioral health services into patient’s homes or into other settings using telehealth technology. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Representing Psychiatric Telehealth Services operated by the department across the UW Medicine Health System 
  • Representing UW Psychiatry Telehealth Services and academic faculty activities at quarterly Department Leadership Council, UW Medicine Telehealth Committee and UW Medicine Behavioral Health Service Line
  • Working closely with Department Chair and Director in development and negotiating telepsychiatry contracts with external partners such as government and industry
  • Participating with the Chair and Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in recruitment and credentialing of clinically active Department faculty providing telehealth services
  • Monitoring compliance requirements for clinically active faculty providing telehealth services at UW Medicine sites
  • Conducting annual academic performance reviews of telehealth faculty as representative of the Chair
  • Leading QI process for telepsychiatry clinical services
  • Working closely with Chair and Director on strategic initiatives related to telehealth
  • Providing mentorship to junior faculty and participation in faculty recruitment activities
  • Performing other clinical or academic duties as assigned by the Department Chair
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director of Digital Health on overall UW Medicine strategy, implementation, policy and technical issues.
  • Position duties will include a mix of administrative and patient care duties.

All UW faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

We anticipate the candidate hired into this position to start in June of 2020.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold an MD, DO, or PhD (or foreign equivalent), board certification in Psychiatry, and be licensed or license eligible in Washington State. Successful candidates will have expertise in clinical care and will have prior clinical, programmatic, and leadership expertise in telepsychiatry.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1-B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
