Position Description

The Koelle lab at the University of Washington in Seattle has an opening for a Senior Fellow in the area of immune responses to syphilis infection in humans. The laboratory is starting a 5 year cycle of NIH funding with an overall goal of creation of a syphilis vaccine. The grant includes both animal model and human components.  The present opportunity is focused on the human T cell immune response, with collaborating labs in Seattle and Victoria, British Columbia focusing on human B cell immune responses and animal models. The clinical site obtaining human samples will be in Seattle, and the post-doctoral fellow will have opportunities to interact with the clinical research team members.  Specimens will include skin biopsies of syphilis rashes to enable study of immune responses at local sites of disease. A full suite of tools and collaborations are in place including subject recruitment and biopsy, antigen libraries, tetramers, single cell TCR-seq and TCR reconstruction. Shared Resources at UW, the nearby Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center are state-of-the-art.  The lab is located at the UW South Lake Union campus, home of the Departments of Microbiology and Immunology.

 

Other funded lab projects include immune oncology of virus-driven Merkel cell carcinoma, with a focus on T cells, and the T cell responses to VZV and candidate HSV and VZV vaccines.

 

This is a full-time position with a 12 months service period with the title of Senior Fellow, with the possibility for yearly renewal dependent upon performance and continued funding. The start date for this position would be as soon as possible.

 

The University of Washington and the International Union, Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America, Local 4121 (UAW 4121) currently are negotiating their first collective bargaining agreement for Postdoctoral Scholars. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Microbiology or Immunology with experience in areas such as tissue immunity, advanced flow cytometry, TCR sequencing and expression, molecular biology, and/or vaccinology, and an abiding interest in human cellular immunology. 

Minimum Degree Required: PhD or foreign equivalent.
