THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON, SEATTLE, College of Education, seeks to fill a nine-month, full-time position for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Educational Finance, Policy, and Politics, with a focus on educational equity in P-12 settings. This position involves active research agendas in educational finance, as well as the intersections between finance and the politics of education, or the intersections between finance and other aspects of educational policy. This position may also involve quantitative methods and collaborating with qualitative or mixed methods scholars. In this role, the successful candidate will bring an explicit equity lens to their scholarship, with a focus on examining resource distribution, management arrangements, and other policies, especially at the state-level, that hinder or foster equitable public education for historically marginalized students.

 

Our new colleague will have opportunities to contribute to our Ph.D., M.Ed., and undergraduate programs, as well as practitioner-focused programs (e.g., Leadership for Learning [Ed.D.] for system-level leaders, the Danforth Principals Program, and the Masters in Education Policy [MEP] Program). The College of Education is building its capacity for working with American Indian /Alaska Native youth, families, and communities. Candidates with expertise in these areas will be able to contribute to this important initiative. Moreover, the State of Washington is in the midst of significant educational reforms such as, increasing basic education funding, improving academic achievement and closing opportunity gaps, increasing pathways to graduation, and improving our statewide assessment system. This provides a window of opportunity for the successful candidate to influence a range of pressing policy issues. Qualifications

All candidates must have an earned doctorate or foreign equivalent by the date of appointment in a relevant field or discipline such as: educational policy, educational finance, political science, public policy, economics, or sociology.

(1) A detailed letter describing qualifications for the position, including academic preparation, experience, research agenda, evidence about teaching, and evidence of capacity to generate outside funding. The committee is also interested in evidence of partnerships with policymakers, educational leaders or community leaders/members serving historically disenfranchised P-12 students; (2) a one-page statement describing experiences with and commitment to equity in research, teaching, service, and/or outreach; (3) Curriculum vitae; (4) Names and contact information for three references. (Please do not send letters of recommendation at this time; the College of Education will request letters for all semi-finalists); (4) Two examples of scholarly writing; and (5) an email address for further communications.
