Postdoctoral Scholar in Pharmaceutics
Position Overview
Organization: Pharmaceutics
Title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Pharmaceutics
Position Details
Position Description
A full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position is available on an annual 12- month appointment in the Isoherranen Lab at the Department of Pharmaceutics at the University of Washington (https://sop.washington.edu/department-of-pharmaceutics/). The Department is internationally renowned for excellence in research and training in the areas of pharmacokinetics, physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling, drug metabolism, drug transport, and drug delivery. Through work that span from in vitro models and clinical studies to in silico modeling, research conducted in the Isoherranen Lab focuses on development of novel methods to predict drug disposition in humans and on understanding how disease states and other individual factors such as pregnancy, drug-drug interactions and organ impairment alter drug disposition. Current research interests include elucidating the mechanisms that alter drug disposition in pregnancy and how altered drug disposition may lead to adverse drug reactions and characterization on how binding proteins alter vitamin A metabolism and signaling. The highly collegial Department faculty, students and post-doctoral fellows pursue multidisciplinary and translational goals through collaborations within University of Washington and with national institutions.
The Postdoctoral Scholar will be engaging in NIH-funded research on drug-pregnancy interactions and PBPK modeling of pregnancy mediated changes in drug disposition and on industry funded research on development of machine learning and AI based approaches to PBPK modeling. The post-doctoral fellow will also participate in projects under the newly established Institute for Innovations in Drug Disposition and Delivery (I2D3). Potential areas of investigation include:
· Developing PBPK models of estrogen disposition during pregnancy and in reproductive age women including modeling drug-estrogen interactions
· Developing PBPK models using validated AI and machine learning workflows
· Performing pharmacokinetics analysis and data verification from human studies
· Analysis of proteomics data supporting drug metabolism characterization
· Verification and validation of model development pipelines and data analysis workflows
The successful candidate will work closely with the PI and collaborators in a highly collaborative environment. The candidate will plan and perform experiments, write manuscripts, and participate in and present research findings at local and national meetings. Some other tasks such as coordination with co-investigators, mentoring graduate students, and assisting in laboratory tasks is expected.
The anticipated start date is January 1st, 2027.
The base salary range for this position will be $5,705 - $6,250 per month ($68,460 - $75,00 per 12-month academic year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This is a grant-funded 12-month appointment renewable for up to three years provided funding availability and performance.
Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.
Qualifications
Ph.D. and/or M.D. or foreign equivalent required in Pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, toxicology, biostatistics or applied mathematics or a closely related field.
Must have a strong background in pharmacokinetics, with training and experience in biostatistics and data science and in writing manuscripts.
The candidate must be self-motivated and willing to acquire new skills and enjoy working both independently and in a team setting. Excellent attention to detail, good organization, and communication skills are essential to success.
