Title: Teaching Associate (APP) - Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (Interventional Pulmonology)

Position Details

Position Description

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine, at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) at the rank of Teaching Associate, with an anticipated start date of March 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.

The successful candidate will provide interventional pulmonology (IP) care as part of the IP service at UWMC-Montlake under the supervision of the Director of Interventional Pulmonology.

The APP is a member of the inter-professional pulmonary and critical care team that includes attending physicians, pulmonary and critical care trainees, multidisciplinary specialists (thoracic surgery, radiology, medical oncology, pathology), and procedural suite staff providing diagnostic and therapeutic IP care at UWMC-Montlake. The selected candidate will provide care independently and collaboratively with other team members. The role is based primarily in the outpatient setting, split between the IP/Lung Nodule Clinic and procedural suite support. Core duties include independently evaluating and managing patients in the Lung Nodule Clinic; completing pre-procedure assessments and post-procedure follow-up for bronchoscopic and pleural procedures; coordinating care with the IP physician, scheduler, and procedural suite staff; and serving as a liaison between procedural suite staff and the IP attending to support proper set-up and workflow for scheduled cases.  Candidates with procedural experience, or a strong interest in developing procedural skills, are encouraged to apply. Opportunities exist for training and credentialing in bedside procedures including thoracentesis, chest tube placement and management, and tunneled pleural catheter placement, management, and removal. This is a weekday-only position; no weekend, holiday, or call coverage is required. Teaching associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July–June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary range for this position will be $9,167–$15,174 per month ($110,004–$182,095 per year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

For practitioners holding an appointment in one of the physicians practice plans, see the link for additional benefits that may be available at: https://faculty.uwmedicine.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/UWP-Benefits-Summary-for-recruitingef-edits-v3.pdf.
