Title: Postdoctoral Scholar – Department of Radiology, Cancer and Tumor Imaging, OncoRad Lab

Position Details

Position Description

Position Description

The University of Washington Department of Radiology has an outstanding opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scholar in cancer imaging within the OncoRad Lab, led by Medical Director Dr. Achille Mileto, MD.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of radiologists, oncologists, data scientists, image analysts, and other faculty and research professionals across the University of Washington and its affiliated hospitals.  The postdoctoral scholar will play a central role in developing a comprehensive imaging biomarker program within the OncoRad Lab, integrating advanced imaging technologies, computational analytics, and clinical oncology applications.

This position is designed to generate high-impact scientific discoveries while also establishing the infrastructure, collaborative networks, and grant-supported research foundation necessary for long-term programmatic growth.  By leveraging multimodality imaging datasets, radiomics, artificial intelligence, and longitudinal clinical imaging data, the postdoctoral scholar will develop clinically meaningful imaging biomarkers aimed at improving cancer detection, tumor characterization, treatment response assessment, prognostication, and personalized treatment planning.

The position provides an opportunity for a highly motivated researcher to develop scientific independence while working closely with experienced clinical and research mentors in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

A central goal of this position is the formal development of an Imaging Biomarker Program within the OncoRad Lab at the University of Washington.  This program will serve as a foundational research initiative focused on advancing quantitative imaging science in oncology and establishing scalable infrastructure for future scientific and clinical research.

Responsibilities will include:

·       Design and lead innovative research projects focused on quantitative imaging, imaging biomarker development, and translational oncology.

·       Develop standardized imaging repositories and curated oncology imaging datasets to support reproducible research.

·       Create and implement reproducible imaging analysis pipelines and workflows utilizing advanced computational approaches, including radiomics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, image analysis, and longitudinal imaging assessment.

·       Integrate multimodal imaging data with clinical, pathologic, molecular, and longitudinal outcome data to develop clinically meaningful biomarkers.

·       Establish and implement strategies for imaging biomarker development, validation, and clinical translation using retrospective and prospective clinical datasets, supporting future multi-institutional studies.

·       Expand AI-driven imaging research capabilities within the laboratory and broader oncology research program.

·       Collaborate with faculty, clinicians, data scientists, image analysts, research staff, trainees, and external partners to advance translational oncology research initiatives.

·       Develop collaborative research partnerships with other departments, clinical programs, and cancer-focused research groups.

·       Contribute to grant development and submission, including NIH, foundation, and industry-sponsored proposals related to quantitative imaging, imaging biomarkers, and translational oncology.

·       Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at national and international scientific meetings.

·       Contribute to the development of sustainable research infrastructure and collaborative networks that support the long-term growth of the OncoRad imaging research program.

The successful candidate will possess expertise in quantitative imaging analysis, imaging biomarker development, and advanced imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, and PET. They will have experience applying radiomics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other computational imaging approaches to large-scale, multimodality, and longitudinal datasets, as well as integrating imaging data with clinical, pathologic, molecular, and outcomes data. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong record of scholarly productivity, experience contributing to research grant applications, and a commitment to translational oncology and the clinical implementation of quantitative imaging biomarkers.

Salary and Appointment

The base salary range for this position will be $5,705 to $6,178 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This is a full-time, 100% FTE, 12-month Postdoctoral Scholar appointment. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment for a second year contingent upon satisfactory progress, performance, and availability of funding.
