Position Description
The Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of September 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month academic appointment, 3-year term, renewable, beginning Autumn 2027.
The base salary range for this position will be $11,000 - $14,444 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics; expand the department's existing AMO research efforts with neutral atoms and trapped ions; and develop an externally funded and impactful research program. Candidates will be evaluated based on their past research accomplishments and their commitments and prospects for effective teaching, mentorship, and outreach/community support.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant campus-wide quantum research community with a variety of synergistic opportunities for collaboration. In addition to participation in regular seminars and colloquia, the position offers the opportunity to engage in and organize workshops and visitor programs through the Thouless Institute for Quantum Matter and the InQubator for Quantum Simulation.
All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
Qualifications
Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
A PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Physics or a related field is required by the start of the appointment.

· teaching statement (maximum 2 pages), describing:
· your thoughts on how to effectively teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels
· courses/subjects you would like to teach at UW
· any previous experience with classroom teaching and/or mentorship of more junior scientists
· outreach activities and/or efforts to increase access to scientific knowledge and education
