The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology, is offering an outstanding opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist with a research focus on mHealth interventions for adults with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other rehabilitation populations to join our faculty. This will be a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor - without tenure due to source of funding, which is typical of ranked faculty appointments within the department.
The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment, 3-year term, renewable, beginning in Spring 2026, but other dates may be considered.
Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
The successful candidate will spend approximately 50 - 80% time, contingent on grant funding, on research activities, including designing and optimizing mHealth interventions and mindfulness-based interventions for treating symptoms in adults with multiple sclerosis and other chronic health or rehabilitation conditions. Expected to develop and sustain an independent research portfolio also may have opportunities to collaborate on the funded research projects of other faculty within the department. This work also includes conducting clinical research, disseminating results in peer-reviewed publications, and securing external funding. This individual will work as part of a multidisciplinary research team at the Multiple Sclerosis Rehabilitation and Wellness Research Center on the UW Medicine-Northwest campus, where psychologists, physiatrists, physical therapists, and neurologists conduct clinical research aimed at treating common symptoms (including chronic pain) and improving well-being in adults with MS. The candidate’s interests and background will build upon the Center’s 15-year history of conducting telehealth cognitive behavioral interventions in the multiple sclerosis population. The individual also will have opportunity to collaborate with other psychologists in the Division who currently have active, grant-funded programs across a range of rehabilitation populations and conditions, including chronic pain. The successful candidate also will be expected to pursue new grant funding either leading or collaborating with other researchers. The Assistant Professor will be provided with a mentoring team to guide them in establishing their research program and, for the first three years, will be provided with protected time to develop their research program, including writing grants. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, research expertise and interests in mindfulness-based interventions, mHealth interventions, and other behavioral interventions for treating chronic pain, depression, inactivity, and/or other common comorbid concerns in adults living with multiple sclerosis.
Clinical care and training activities will fill approximately 20 - 50% of the time. Current clinical needs are focused on outpatient psychotherapy (including at our UW Medicine Multiple Sclerosis Center), supervision of psychology residents and fellows, as well as consultation with members of multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams. Primary patient conditions/populations include multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury.
Opportunities are available for clinical supervision and research mentorship of psychology predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees within our APA-accredited internship and fellowship programs, as well as lectures at the graduate/medical school level. Opportunities also are available for mentorship, career growth, and leadership.
As a member of the Division of Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology, the successful candidate will participate in research, teaching, and clinical services and will be expected to fulfill requirements for advancement along the Clinician-Scientist pathway of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine.
All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
COMPENSATION
The base salary range for this position will be $9,351 - $10,918 per month ($112,212 - $134,946 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through UW Physicians (UWP).

The UW Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is nationally recognized for outstanding research, clinical care and education and has a long history as a regional center. Ranked in the Top Ten in US News & World Report, The Department has an exceptional record of successful extramural research funding and interprofessional collaboration and offers rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research, teaching, and learning.
As one of the largest recipients of rehabilitation research funding in the country, research is a key focus of our department. Key research focus areas include limb loss, pain, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and disability. Our faculty collaborate extensively with other departments within the School of Medicine, as well as with outside institutions. In fiscal year 2023, our department researchers received more than $15.7 million in awards from government and private sources. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), and the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)/ Administration for Community Living (ACL) were our top sponsors, comprising a total of 72% of the awards we received. In addition, our departmental faculty who are based at VA Puget Sound Health Care System have a total of $21.8 million in current funding.
- The department has four clinical divisions: General Physiatry, Sports and Spine Physiatry, Pediatric Rehabilitation, and Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology. Faculty provide clinical services across four UW Medicine campuses: Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake, University of Washington Medical Center-Northwest, and UW Eastside Specialty Center. More than 25 of our faculty are based at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, which are UW Medicine-affiliated organizations. The Sports and Spine division provides care at seven clinics throughout the UW Medicine system.

Qualifications
Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Applicants must have a PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited clinical psychology graduate school program or foreign equivalent.
- Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in multiple sclerosis research.
- Must be licensed or license eligible to practice Psychology in the State of Washington.
