Position Description

The Department of Health Systems and Population Health (HSPop) at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track, with an earliest anticipated start date of April 1, 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a 12-month appointment, 3-year term, renewable for a second 3-year term.

The base salary range for this position will be $10,000 - $12,500 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The successful candidate will be expected to: 

  • Collaboratively advance the scholarly portfolio of the Anti-Racism and Community Health (ARCH) Center through interdisciplinary and community-engaged research and evaluation focused on disrupting structural racism and discrimination, strengthening institutional capacity for engaging community partners, and advancing community-led solutions for health equity.
  • Contribute to educational leadership by developing and delivering high-quality undergraduate and graduate instruction, including the expected course load, and contributing to course and curriculum development.
  • Use or develop innovative and evidence-based pedagogy that integrates equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, anti-racism, and/or decolonizing scholarly frameworks;
  • Maintain an active, high-impact research and scholarship agenda, including pursuing extramural funding and conducting and disseminating research and evaluation. Scholarship should integrate methodologies to study anti-racism and health equity. Examples include work focused on public safety and alternatives to policing, carceral system impacts, immigrant and refugee health, Black health and well-being, racial trauma and healing, LGBTQ+ health, Indigenous and social determinants of health.
  • Mentor, advise, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students and foster an inclusive learning environment that supports student success.
  • Participate in department, School, University, professional, and community service activities in alignment with the School’s Mission.
  • Disseminate scholarly work to academic, professional, and community audiences through peer-reviewed publications and other forms of public scholarship.

Department, School, and Community Collaboration Information 

The Department of Health Systems and Population Health (HSPop) is one of five departments within the School of Public Health. In addition to collaborating with the ARCH Center, the successful candidate may have opportunities to be affiliated with several centers within the department, university, health and research organizations (e.g., Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Kaiser Permanente), and community-based organizations (e.g., Tubman Center for Health and Freedom, Byrd Barr Place). Depending on the interests and qualifications of the successful candidate, an adjunct appointment may be considered with other UW departments, affiliate institutions, or research and community-based organizations across Seattle and Washington State.

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications: 

Must have a doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) by date of hire in fields or disciplines related to researching human populations including but not limited to public health, health promotion, epidemiology, biostatistics, nursing, public policy, public administration, history, ethnic studies, sociology, or anthropology.

Must have a demonstration of teaching and research ability that evidences promise of a successful career.
