Position Description

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of Washington invites applications for a clinical practice faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice, Associate Professor of Clinical Practice, or Full Professor of Clinical Practice, commensurate with experience and qualifications, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027. Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a twelve-month full-time basis for a term of 3 years. 

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and FHCRC) and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan. 

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in direct clinical activities as an attending physician, responsible for providing and supervising the care of patients at sites of care for Pediatric Emergency Services; participate in local, regional and national activities that will promote clinical interests as well as develop career goals; assist in faculty development efforts during career progression; and assist the department in its development through committee memberships as requested. The faculty member will be an active participant in medical student, resident, and fellow education programs and will work diligently to continually grow as a teacher and educator. Faculty member clinical responsibilities in the Emergency Department will also include attending meetings to further divisional educational and research efforts, as well as interdisciplinary and department opportunities. Faculty opportunities, and participation in committees and other administrative activities, will be reviewed on an annual basis. 

Candidates will be considered across a range of interests in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, teaching, research, and service. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, prior experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine quality improvement leadership efforts. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, scholarship and service.

The base salary range for this position will be Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice - $17,517 - $26,276 per month ($210,212 - $315,318 annually), Associate Professor of Clinical Practice - $19,858 - $29,788 per month ($238,306 - $357,458 annually), Full Professor of Clinical Practice - $22,874 - $34,312 per month ($274,497 - $411,745 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan.

Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative duty supplement (ADS).

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

Must have MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent). Must be Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Emergency Medicine and must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
