Position Description

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutch and the Division of Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies at the UW. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment (3-year term, renewable) if Assistant Professor beginning November 2026.

  • Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
  • Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

This position is paid directly by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center hrops@fredhutch.org for information about compensation for this position.

 Academic appointments at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank.  The selected individual is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in clinical research in palliative care. The successful candidate will have clinical responsibilities on the outpatient and/or inpatient palliative care service based on the candidate’s interests (and institutional need). Teaching responsibilities will include clinical oversite of fellows, informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to learners, providers and the general medical community. The balance of time will be spent in research-related activities. At Fred Hutch, Clinician Scholars are expected to obtain externally funded research (e.g. grants, clinical trials). 

 Candidates will be considered across a range of interests in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Palliative care.

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

 Must have MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent). Must be Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Hospice and Palliative Medicine and must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington.

 Other Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will also have one or more of the following characteristics or attributes:

1.       Prior experience working clinically with individuals with hematologic malignancies

2.       Willingness to work at Fred Hutch’s South Lake Union, UW Montlake or other UW sites, and/or community sites

3.       Native or near native fluency in a language other than English
