Position Description
The Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor on theTenure Track with an anticipated start date of 1/2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month academic appointment, with an initial 3-year term that is renewable. This position is expected to specialize in molecular virology or bacteriology.
The base salary range for this position will be $10,500-$11,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Establish and maintain an externally funded, innovative research program within the broad field of microbiology.
- Teach undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional students
- Contribute to service and leadership within the department and university
The Department of Microbiology provides a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, with access to state-of-the-art core facilities and strong connections to programs in infectious diseases, immunology, global health, and bioengineering.
All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
Qualifications
Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Applicants must have a PhD or foreign equivalent degree in microbiology or a related field. An MD or foreign equivalent degree is also acceptable
- 2 years of postdoctoral research experience and a demonstrated record of scholarly achievement
