Position Description

The University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine has a faculty position available at the rank of Research Assistant Professor to be based at the Northwest Metabolomics Research Center located at the South Lake Union Campus.  Research Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  This is a non-tenure track (due to reasons of funding), full-time position with an anticipated start date of July 2026 or thereafter.  The base salary range for this position will be $9,167 -- $10,417 per month ($110,004 - $125,004 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research program in the field of metabolomics involving both methods development and applications in health and disease.  Specifically, this position will focus on determining the role of changing metabolism in human diseases and their mechanistic origins.  Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to excellence in biomedical research, advanced experience in developing metabolomics methods and data analysis including unknown metabolite identification, experience with cell culture and animal disease models, experience in systems biology approaches, and proven track records of outstanding publication and securing research funding.  University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship and service.

Qualifications

PhD or foreign equivalent in chemistry (e.g., analytical or applied chemistry) or biochemistry or related field, and a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training.
