Position Description

The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Pediatrics, is offering an outstanding opportunity for a pediatric physiatrist to join our faculty. This will be a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor without tenure due to source of funding, which is typical of ranked faculty appointments within the department. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Position FTE may be negotiable.

Anticipated start date is September 1, 2026, but other dates may be considered.

The successful candidate will participate in clinical responsibilities including serving as the attending physician on the inpatient rehabilitation unit and the outpatient rehabilitation clinic and other subspecialty or multidisciplinary clinics, caring for the full spectrum of general rehabilitation patients. There will be expected travel to regional clinics in the Puget Sound area and outreach clinic within the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana & Idaho (WWAMI) region. Participate in covering the weekend and holiday attending rounds at Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH). Share on-call coverage including inpatients, outpatient calls and baclofen pump call. May supervise trainees and may have the opportunity to participate in research activities.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. 

COMPENSATION

The base salary range for this position will be $15,000 - $20,598 per month ($180,000 - $247,176 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  

This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by CUMG practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through CUMG practice plan or a moving allowance or relocation incentive, if applicable.

Seattle Children’s is a 350-bed hospital committed to family centered care, patient safety, teaching and research.  It serves as the primary pediatric hospital for the Seattle metropolitan and Puget Sound areas as well as the tertiary referral center for the Pacific Northwest states including Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho.  The Rehabilitation Medicine program at Seattle Children’s operates a 12-bed inpatient unit, a robust consult service, as well as general and specialized outpatient rehabilitation clinics.

Qualifications

  • Must have an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent)
  • Must be board certified in Rehabilitation Medicine and either also (a) be board certified in Pediatrics or (b) have subspecialty certification in Pediatric Rehabilitation
  • Licensed physician with a history of medical practice in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine
  • Eligible to practice medicine in the state of Washington

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
