Position Description

The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is large and complex with approximately 280 paid faculty, 30 residents, 6 fellows, 100 staff, and 1400 volunteer faculty. It has one of the largest research efforts of any family medicine department in the U.S., and the UW Family Medicine Residency is a top ranked academic program nationally.

The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is seeking a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor on the Clinician Educator track, appointed as Assistant/Associate Professor without tenure (WOT) due to the source of funding. This position includes 60% clinical effort, with the remaining time dedicated to teaching, research, and administrative service.

All DFM faculty engage in research, teaching, and scholarly activities. This position is based in Seattle, Washington, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026, or shortly thereafter.

Assistant Professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30). Faculty on a 12-month service period are paid for 11 months of service over 12 months, allowing the equivalent of one month of paid time off.

Associate Professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30). Faculty on a 12-month service period are paid for 11 months of service over 12 months, allowing the equivalent of one month of paid time off.

The base salary range for Assistant Professors WOT will be:  $17,000 – $20,000 per month ($204,000-240,000) annually commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The base salary range for Associate Professors WOT will be:  $19,167 – $22,500 per month ($230,004-270,000) annually commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

 

Salary ranges are inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

 

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through the UW Physicians practice plan.

Reporting

All Department of Family Medicine faculty report to the Department Chair. This position will also have accountability to the UWMC Chief of Service and the WWAMI Family Medicine Residency Network Director

 

 

Position Responsibilities

Clinician-Educator Pathway faculty have major responsibilities in one or more departmental education programs, and a clinical practice or a major clinical focus with related teaching activities, with the combination of education activities and clinical practice accounting for most of their effort. These faculty are expected to excel in their education activities and clinical practice; demonstrate scholarship related to their educational or clinical activities; and through service activities participate in the life of the Department.

Qualifications

 

§  MD, DO or other doctoral terminal degree (or foreign equivalent) 

§  Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine

§  Must hold or be eligible for Washington State medical license

 

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
