The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Physiatry, is offering an outstanding opportunity for a physiatrist to join our faculty. This will be a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (without tenure due to source of funding, which is typical of ranked faculty appointments within the department).
Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Anticipated start date is September 2026, but other dates may be considered.

As a member of the Division of Physiatry, the successful candidate will participate in clinical care, teaching, and scholarship and will be expected to fulfill requirements for advancement along the Clinician-Educator pathway of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine.
The successful candidates will join our team in caring for a diverse population with a broad range of diagnoses, such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, amputee, post-acute symptoms of COVID, and neuromuscular disorders. Duties may include a mix of working in the inpatient rehabilitation unit, acute hospital consultation, and outpatient clinic settings at both Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center, depending on the successful candidates’ experience and interests and patient care needs. Procedures such as EMGs, chemodenervation injections, and intrathecal baclofen pump management are also available to interested applicants. Our patient and family-centered academic hospital-based rehabilitation programs offer tertiary care for a five-state region.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
COMPENSATION
The base salary range for this position will be $15,000 - $20,598 per month ($180,000 - $247,176 annually) -- commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position will include semi-annual, production-based incentive through UW Physicians (UWP), and may also include temporary salary increases or salary supplements related to professional sites of practice coverage (NTE TPSs), moving allowance or relocation incentive, or administrative supplements (ADS) related to any additional administrative or other leadership duties assigned.

The UW Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is nationally recognized for outstanding research, clinical care and education and has a long history as a regional center. US News & World Report consistently ranks the University of Washington Department of Rehabilitation Medicine among the top ten programs in the country. The Department has an exceptional record of successful extramural research funding and interprofessional collaboration and offers rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research, teaching, and learning.
We are among the nation’s leading recipients of research and training funding from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, including the TBI and Burn Model Systems grants. We have a long history of innovative clinical and research programs, strong research infrastructure, active mentoring of junior faculty and a rich network of potential clinical and research collaborators among faculty within and outside our department.
The department has four clinical divisions: General Physiatry, Sports and Spine Physiatry, Pediatric Rehabilitation, and Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology. Faculty provide clinical services across four UW Medicine campuses: Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake, University of Washington Medical Center-Northwest, and UW Eastside Specialty Center. More than 25 of our faculty are based at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, which are UW Medicine-affiliated organizations. The Sports and Spine division provides care at seven clinics throughout the UW Medicine system.
We offer nationally recognized training in rehabilitation therapies and rehabilitation research through four graduate degree programs: PhD in Rehabilitation Science, Master in Occupational Therapy, Master in Prosthetics and Orthotics, and Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Qualifications
- MD, DO, or foreign equivalent and eligible for full medical licensure in Washington state
- Board certification or eligibility for Board Certification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
- Successful completion of residency training in an accredited PM&R program
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
