The UW Medicine Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology brings together state-of-the-art technology and highly trained, world renowned personnel to provide comprehensive diagnostic and personalized service to physicians, community hospitals, independent laboratories, and other health care organizations. Our operations are based at the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, South Lake Union, Northwest Hospital and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Faculty members also serve at Seattle Children's Hospital, the Veteran’s Administration Puget Sound Healthcare System, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. These collaborative efforts have generated innovative, translational studies in the basic mechanisms of disease as they apply to diagnostic laboratory medicine and pathology.
The Bekris Lab has an outstanding opportunity for a 1.0 FTE Postdoctoral Scholar. This full-time, 12-month position has immediate availability for an initial one-year appointment. The position will be renewable annually contingent on performance and available funding.
The base salary range for this position will be $5,705 per month ($ 68,460 annually).
Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.
General Duties:
- Lead the development and application of next generation proteomic analyses
- Build and optimize proteomic pipelines for neurodegenerative disease biological subtyping
- Perform genetic, epigenetic and protein biomarker analyses including a range of molecular biology assays (e.g. protein multiplex, RT-qPCR, PCR, DNA sequencing)
- Analyze, document, interpret and report results
- Report findings directly to the PI and in seminars.
- Contribute to manuscripts (including first-author publications), grant applications, and presentations to share your work with the broader scientific community.
- Collaborate with the research teams including clinicians, technician and research coordinators on new and ancillary projects troubleshoot research pipelines,methodologies and applications.
- Mentor junior scientists and students, fostering skill development and collaboration.
- Perform other duties as required to advance Bekris Lab goals.
The ideal candidate will also meet the additional requirements:
- Experience in biomarker discovery; genetic, epigenetic or proteomics.
- Adult neurodegenerative disease expertise
- Statistical and coding skills including R experience
- Strong problem-solving and scientific communication skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in a variety of molecular biology techniques including protein quantification methods, nucleic acid extraction and related, cell culture and cell transfection experience.
- Protein instrument expertise with Luminex, MSD or ARGO Nulisaseq
- Previous experience in NGS data analysis and genomics pipelines since similar to proteomic pipelines.
- Record of prior first-author publications.
- A deep interest in biomarker research and discovery.
- The drive to pursue neurodegenerative disease research
Qualifications
Education requirement, minimum: PhD in molecular biology or biochemistry or similar.
