Position Description
The University of Washington Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor on the clinician scientist track, with the title of assistant professor without tenure (WOT) due to source of funding. This position will be a minimum of 40% clinical time and includes up to 30% protected time for research development for the first two years. All faculty in the DFM participate in research, teaching, and scholarly effort. This position is based in Seattle, Washington with an anticipated start date is April 1, 2026, or soon thereafter.
Assistant Professors (Without Tenure) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). This is a twelve-month appointment with salary paid over twelve months for eleven months of service.
The base salary range for this position will be: $16,250 - $18,334 per month ($195,000 - $220,008 annually commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through the UW Physicians practice plan.

Reporting
All Department of Family Medicine faculty report to the Department Chair. This position will also have accountability to the VC of Clinical Programs and the VC of Research.
Position Responsibilities
Success in research and scholarship is required of faculty appointed in this pathway in the Department of Family Medicine, documented from appropriate sources and evaluated at the appropriate faculty level at the time of initial appointment, and excellence is required for promotion. The FTE allocation for this position will include 0.30 FTE dedicated to research, teaching and administrative responsibilities, and up to 0.70 clinical FTE (cFTE). The minimum CFTE for this position is 0.4. The faculty member will provide clinical services within the department’s family medicine clinical setting at Harborview Medical Center.
Qualifications
- MD or DO (or foreign equivalent)
- Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine
- Must hold or be eligible for Washington State medical license
- Track record of conducting research in health equity and family medicine practice
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
