Position Description

The University of Washington’s Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, is seeking applicants for a part-time (0.9 FTE) faculty position to be based at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and the University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake (UWMC-Montlake). This position will include serving as an attending physician at the VA Primary Care Clinic, performing research with Dr. Thomas Gallagher's group at UWMC-Montlake, teaching of residents and students through attending on clinical service, and generating scholarly works related to primary care peer support and medical error disclosure.

This position will be at the Assistant Professor rank (without tenure due to funding). Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The anticipated start date would be July 1, 2026.

Salary

The base salary range for this position will be: $19,500 - $20,400 per month ($234,000 - $244,800 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the VA may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification* in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent). Applicants must hold or be eligible for Washington State Medical License.

Eligible candidates must have an established record of at least five years as a teacher in a university setting, with both medical students and residents.  Applicants must show evidence of scholarly productivity and peer-reviewed publications of original studies related to primary care peer support and medical error disclosure.

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)

*Note: Board certification in Internal Medicine must be completed within two years after residency.
