Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) Department of Rehabilitation Medicine invites applications for its Rehabilitation Psychology Postdoctoral Clinical and Research Fellowship. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. The one-year fellowship (60% clinical / 40% research) emphasizes Rehabilitation Psychology at the UW Harborview Medical Center Long COVID Clinic. 

The desired start date is August 2026.

The fellowship is funded by an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Long COVID Grant awarded to UW Long COVID Clinic titled “Improving Access to Multidisciplinary Care for Patients with Long COVID”. The three aims of the grant project are as follows:

1.       Improve clinical care delivery and expand access to the UW Long COVID Clinic for patients in Washington and Alaska.
2.       Engage underserved communities to improve culturally responsive education on COVID-19 and post COVID conditions.
3.       Improve access to post-COVID care in the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI) region by providing ongoing education and support to community primary care physicians, mental health providers, and physical therapists with a focus on providers in under-resourced areas across the WWAMI region.

The fellow will develop and hone expertise in assessing and managing/treating post-COVID symptoms such as dyspnea, chronic fatigue and post-exertional malaise, dysautonomia, cognitive problems, and anxiety and depression symptoms at the interdisciplinary UW Medicine Ling COVID Clinic (https://www.longcovidclinic.uw.edu/). The UW Medicine Ling COVID Clinic is an interprofessional team-based group of physicians, psychologists, physical a nurse case manager, patient navigator, clinician scientists, and a global health fellow in Primary Care. In line with Aim 1, the fellow will spend approximately 60% of their time providing supervised individual and group therapy to diverse patients in Washington and Alaska with Long COVID in-person and via telemedicine (HIPAA-compliant Zoom). The group therapy is an 8-session symptom self-management intervention delivered via telemedicine. The fellow will also have the opportunity to engage in vertical supervision of predoctoral psychology interns who may elect to co-facilitate the self-management group as well as graduate practicum students who may elect to provide individual therapy to the patients with Long COVID. In line with Aim 3, the fellow will provide behavioral health webinars and lectures for the ongoing education and support to primary care physicians, mental health providers, and physical therapists in the WWAMI region.

The fellow will spend approximately 40% of their time collaborating on quantitative and qualitative assessment of program implementation outcomes guided by the Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (RE-AIM) framework and the Practical Implementation Sustainability Model (PRISM). No prior research experience in implementation science is required. The fellow will have the opportunity to contribute to manuscript preparation and to propose and conduct independent research using project data.

The fellow will also have the opportunity to participate in professional development programs via the UW Department of Rehabilitation Medicine’s Grand Rounds series, Springboard to Success Research Program series, and Early Career Mentoring Program series.

Compensation

The fellowship provides a full-time annual base salary of $68,460 ($5,705/month) and package that includes paid holidays, health insurance, and vacation and sick leave.

Qualifications

Successful candidates must

  • have completed an internship in an APA-approved clinical psychology graduate school program by August 2026.
  • have a PhD or PsyD or foreign equivalent by fall of 2026

Graduate or Internship training in rehabilitation psychology or clinical health psychology is desired but not required.
