Position Description
The University of Washington’s Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Genetics is recruiting for one (1) full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (tenure eligible). Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34.
Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position is anticipated to start July 1, 2026; specific start date is negotiable.
The University of Washington, including the Division of Medical Genetics and the Department of Genome Sciences, is at the forefront of modern genomics technology and its applications to human disease. Candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with other internationally recognized members of the faculty developing and using cutting-edge technologies and access state-of-the-art research facilities and clinical research programs. Successful candidates will be expected to carry out a research program in translational genetics or genomics. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
The successful candidate will be expected to also engage in clinical work. Anticipated clinical responsibilities will primarily consist of an outpatient genetics clinic, with possible inpatient genetic clinical work at UW Medical Center Montlake and/or UW Medical Center Northwest Hospital. The successful candidate will work with and teach students and trainees, including medical students and medical genetics residents through participation as part of the medical genetics courses and supervision as an attending.
Compensation
The base salary range for this position will be: $11,667 – $15,417 per month ($140,004 – $185,004 annually) for Assistant Professor; $15,417 – $19,141 per month ($185,004 - $229,692 annually) for Associate Professor and commensurate with experience, qualifications, and rank or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant field AND a M.D. or D.O. (or foreign equivalent).
- Board eligible in Clinical Genetics (or foreign equivalent) by the start date of the appointment.
- Demonstrated record of research and publication.
- Washington state medical license & DEA licensure eligibility.
- In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
- Candidates must have a strong research background involving the identification and/or characterization of disease genes, or the application of genetic/genomic information towards the diagnosis or treatment of human disease.
