Position Description
The Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine invites applications for a Spine Neurosurgeon to join our academic faculty.
This is a full-time appointment at the Assistant Professor (without tenure) rank in the Clinician-Scientist Pathway or the Clinician-Scholar pathway.
Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July–June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position in this title will be $53,171–$57,077 per month ($638,052–$684,924 per year), commensurate with experience, discipline, and qualifications, or as may be mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
The applicant’s primary responsibilities include clinical care, teaching, and research in the Department of Neurological Surgery. Specifically, we would ask the applicant to partner with our faculty in expanding our comprehensive spine program within the department. We expect the applicant to continue to advance our research interests, including the acquisition of new and independent funding sources (private and federal grants) for their research within the first three years as a faculty member.
The Department of Neurological Surgery has a nationally recognized tradition of excellence in patient care, education, and research. Faculty are expected to engage in a broad range of academic activities, including clinical service, teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows, and participation in clinical or translational research.
The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2026.
Our salaries are benchmarked to the AAMC faculty compensation scale. Other compensation associated with this position may include a relocation incentive/moving allowance, administrative supplement, or productivity incentive, as applicable.
Qualifications
- Applicants must have an M.D. degree (or foreign equivalent).
- Applicants must be eligible for a Washington State Medical License.
- Applicants must be board certified or board eligible in Neurological Surgery
- In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
