Title: Assistant Teaching Professor - Aeronautics & Astronautics
Position Details
Position Description
The University of Washington’s William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics (A&A) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position. Assistant Teaching Professors are non-tenured faculty members hired on multi-year appointments with a 9-month service period (September 16 through June 15), with the opportunity to teach during the summer. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2026 with an initial appointment period of 3 years.
Teaching Faculty at UW A&A must teach 2 classes each quarter (6 classes per academic year, not including summer), in addition to 20% service at UW or professional organizations, with no required research commitment. The new professor will primarily support project-based and laboratory learning at the Junior, Senior, and graduate student levels. In addition, the new professor will teach some core area classes (fluids, propulsion, structures, and/or controls).
The laboratory classes at UW A&A utilize rigorous test procedures and test plans to teach A&A standards and follow the established A&A Systems Engineering process. The successful candidate will guide students through the A&A laboratory experience, including instruction of laboratory techniques, statistical analysis of empirical data, written and oral communications skills, and review of introductory level materials on avionics, thermodynamics, structures, aeronautics, and controls. This faculty member will work across a wide range of aerospace subject areas, experimental and theoretical, to nurture multidisciplinary learning.
Teaching Professors at UW are full members of the faculty, as per the Faculty Code, including full voting rights and participation in all faculty committees (except tenure cases) at the department, college, and university levels. Further, the A&A department is proud to support teaching faculty at the same levels as all other A&A faculty positions. The teaching faculty promotion process is primarily evaluated with regard to teaching and service. In this context, the successful candidate will be expected to pursue pedagogy research at the department, including participation in professional societies and publication in relevant journals, and sharing new techniques with the rest of the faculty. While not required, teaching faculty are also encouraged to engage in research (for more information on our research and labs, please visit https://www.aa.washington.edu/research/areas.) Educational and manufacturing activities at UW A&A, including the Junior laboratory sequence, are supported by a full-time instructional lab manager, as well as departmental IT and facilities support.

-
Immediately lead the Junior Laboratory sequence (AA320, 321, 322)
-
