Position Description

The Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time position at the rank of Associate Professor (without tenure due to funding) in the Clinician-Educator track.

This position offers a unique and multifaceted opportunity for a trauma-focused neurosurgeon to serve across major UW Medicine sites, primarily Harborview Medical Center (HMC), a nationally renowned Level I trauma center.  The successful candidate will report to Dr. Louis J. Kim and Department Chair Dr. Richard G. Ellenbogen.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing comprehensive neurosurgical care with a focus on adult trauma and complex cranial and spinal neurosurgery.
  • Participating in and helping lead Transitional Congenital Neurosurgery Practice at HMC.
  • Co-directing the ACGME-accredited residency program, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and actively engaging in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows through departmental Grand Rounds, clinical instruction, and conferences.

There may also be opportunities for the candidate to provide neurosurgical services at the Seattle VA Medical Center, contributing to the care of veteran patients and supporting federal healthcare initiatives.

This is a 12-month service period position (July 1–June 30), with salary paid over 11 months and one month available as paid time off. The base salary range for this role is $58,632 to $65,266 per month ($703,584 to $783,192 annually), commensurate with experience, qualifications, and discipline. Compensation is benchmarked to the AAMC scale. Additional compensation may include a start-up package, relocation incentive, administrative supplement, or productivity incentive, as appropriate.

The anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2025.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have an M.D. degree (or foreign equivalent). An M.D./Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) is also acceptable.
  • Applicants must be eligible for a Washington State Medical License.
  • Applicants must be board certified or board eligible in Neurosurgery.
  • In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
