Position Description

The University of Washington's Department of Ophthalmology is currently recruiting for a full-time faculty position to specialize in corneal physiology, and in particular molecular mechanisms of corneal limbal stem cell function. This position is based at UW Medicine’s South Lake Union Campus in Seattle at the Vision Science Center.  This position is without tenure due to funding. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2025 or sooner.

This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, without tenure (WOT) due to source of funding. This position is a multi-year appointment with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The 1.0 FTE base salary for this position will be Assistant Professor MD (WOT) $10,083 to $11,667 per month ($121,000-$140,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

Responsibilities include performance of research within area of expertise, and engagement in teaching of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, medical students, and clinical fellows.  It is expected the successful candidate will be competitive for extramural research grants and will establish a strong publication record in the field.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent) with expertise in corneal cell and molecular biology.
