The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty-scientist at the Full Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT.) The successful candidate will join the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division (TST) of the Fred Hutch, and the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Pediatrics, at the UW. The primary appointment will be with Fred Hutch. Academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. The position will allow for outpatient and/or inpatient clinical service. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
The successful candidate must have expertise in human immunology in health and disease and be engaged in laboratory-based and clinical research focused on characterizing the immune consequences of immunotherapeutic modalities in long-term survivors of cancer therapy, particularly that in childhood. The selected individual for the advertised position will contribute to an environment of collaboration and productivity with clinicians and laboratory scientists. The successful candidate will produce peer-reviewed publications in their field and be successful in obtaining extramural funding.
Fred Hutch is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.
Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Anticipated Start Date is Fall 2025.
As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and FHCRC), and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan.
This position is paid directly by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center hrops@fredhutch.org for information about compensation for this position.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent). Must be Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Hematology, Medical Oncology, or a related specialty and must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington.
Must be currently licensed as a physician or eligible for licensure as a physician in Washington state.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
