The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine/Seattle Children’s Hospital is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT), on the Clinician Scholar track. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The anticipated start date is 10/1/25.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and FHCRC), and are part of the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) clinical practice plan. 

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Medical Director to lead the development and implementation of an innovative and comprehensive Obesity ProgramThis position will be expected to support the department's commitment to improving patient outcomes through evidence-based care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive obesity program in an organized manner.
  • Provide direct patient care, with a focus on evidence-based approaches to obesity management and treatment.
  • Build and oversee a multidisciplinary team, including dietitians, behavioral health providers, exercise physiologists, and other specialists.
  • Develop protocols and policies for obesity management, ensuring high standards of care and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Foster collaboration with primary care providers, subspecialists, and community partners to create a continuum of care for patients with obesity.
  • Identify and integrate innovative tools, technologies, and approaches to enhance patient care.
  • Participate in clinical teaching and mentoring of trainees, including residents and fellows.
  • Conduct or support research in obesity prevention and treatment, aligning with the institution’s academic mission.
  • Advocate for resources and programmatic support, including involvement in budget planning and grant applications.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $14,167 - $23,084 per month ($170,004 - $277,008 annually), Associate Professor range: $17,501 – $28,334 per month ($210,012 – $340,008 annually), Professor range: $20,834 - $34,167 per month ($250,008 - $410,004 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan. Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree (or foreign equivilent) with board certification in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
  • Board certification or eligibility (or foreign equivilent) in Obesity Medicine (ABOM).

Must be currently licensed as a physician or eligible for licensure as a physician in Washington state.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
