The Department of Pharmacy at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy invites applications for a 100% FTE, 12-month service period, teaching track (non-tenure) faculty position at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor. This position will contribute extensively in the School’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in skills-based teaching focused on patient-centered, progressive pharmacy practice, as well as student-centered learning. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach and deliver courses in the School of Pharmacy’s PharmD program and focus on teaching practice-related skills aligned with the School of Pharmacy’s mission. Candidates with practice backgrounds in all areas of pharmacy are welcome, including but not limited to general internal medicine, family medicine, and/or pediatrics.

The Department of Pharmacy is a leader in pharmacy education, research, and professional and outreach initiatives. Its faculty conduct pioneering research in numerous areas and educate the next generation of leaders in pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences. The department consists of 50 campus-based faculty, with over 1200 adjunct, affiliate, and clinical faculty with nationally and internationally recognized clinical and research experts.

The University of Washington has been perennially ranked in the top three public universities for federal research funding. The School of Pharmacy ranks 7th best in the country among schools of pharmacy in the U.S., according to the latest U.S. News and World Report. We also rank highly nationally for federal grant funding among US schools and in total research funding per faculty member. The collaboration opportunities at the University of Washington are unparalleled and include the six health sciences schools (dentistry, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, public health, and social work). The successful candidate will join a cadre of other active and collaborative internationally recognized educators.

The base salary range for this position at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor will be $11,336 - $13,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include a moving allowance. The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities 

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, scholarly work, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Actively contribute to instruction in the PharmD curriculum, which focuses on preparing pharmacist providers who are practice-ready in Washington State’s innovative and permissive pharmacy practice environment.
  • Engage in practice-based teaching that prioritizes skill development and real-world applications in the classroom with flexibility to teach across a variety of practice settings.
  • Employ innovative teaching methods.
  • Engage in collaborative intra- and interprofessional teaching.
  • Conduct scholarly activity.
  • Contribute to the department’s goals through active participation in faculty meetings, curriculum development, and engagement with school initiatives.
  • Mentor and support junior faculty members.
  • Support the Department and School's values as well as contribute to the larger service mission of the School of Pharmacy and the UW.

Qualifications

 

  • A doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) degree, or foreign equivalent, from an accredited institution.
  • At least 2 years of post-graduate training, such as PGY1 or PGY2 residency, a fellowship, or 2 years of comparable professional experience working as a pharmacist with at least 50% effort dedicated to direct patient care.
  • At least 10 years of teaching experience at the professional degree level, including a minimum of 5 years in a skills-based course.
  • Strong record of scholarly activity, as demonstrated by a record of publications in scholarly journals and presentations at regional and national scientific conferences.
  • Eligible for pharmacist licensure in Washington State.
