Position Description

The Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington invites applications for full-time non-tenure Assistant Professor track position with a 12-month service period, July 1 to June 30.

The Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics is built on the principles of innovation, integrity, and service. These principles are the foundation of our contributions to the State of Washington, the UW, the international science community, and the broader public. Our mission centers on three areas: advancing fundamental scientific and biomedical knowledge, training the next generation of scientists, and building a strong community invested in the success of every member of our department.

Our department offers a highly collegial and collaborative culture, with diverse interdisciplinary research ties across campus. Additional infrastructure and expertise available to support the successful applicant include the Computational Neuroscience Center, the Washington National Primate Research Center, the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, the Brotman-Baty Institute, the Nathan Shock Center for Aging, the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, and the Garvey Institute, in addition to regional opportunities to collaborate with the Allen Institute for Brain and Cell Science, Seattle Children’s Research Institute, and a multitude of biotechnology companies.

The University of Washington, the School of Medicine, and the Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics are committed to the goal of diversifying our faculty ranks and promoting diversity and inclusivity among students, faculty, and staff. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply. This position will support our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and teach, mentor, and work with individuals from a wide spectrum of backgrounds

For this position, the  department anticipates a start date in late Summer or early Autumn 2025. The candidate is expected to develop an independent research program. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor students and early-stage academic scientists. All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

The base salary range for this position will be $104,410 – $130,010 per year to commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
