Position Description
The School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma is seeking applications from qualified candidates for non-tenure track, temporary part-time lecturer positions effective throughout the 2025-2026 academic year. The appointment period is generally in alignment with the academic quarter. The positions are dependent on curricular need and available funding. Part-time lecturers are non-voting members of the UW Tacoma faculty.
The successful candidate(s) will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in topics such as discrete math, system design, networking, security, programming, web development, and data science.
The positions may require on-site face-to-face availability for course instruction, online/hybrid instruction, and teaching assignments may include days and/or evenings. Teaching excellence is expected of all successful candidates and may be evaluated through classroom and online assessment. General responsibilities include:

Preparing and delivering rigorous course content that meets the academic standards befitting the University of Washington.

Ensuring that delivery of all course materials fits the catalog course description, meets the stated learning goals for each course, and aligns with existing standards.

Ongoing coordination with the Program Chair and/or Graduate Program Director(s).

Using appropriate and effective teaching strategies and student evaluation methods.

Informing students of all course requirements and providing feedback on a continuing basis.

Holding regular office hours.

Using appropriate technology for the course.

Submitting course grades by the deadline.

The base salary range for this position will be $2,167-$2,575 per month per 5-credit course (0.33 FTE) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. University and School Background
UW Tacoma, one of three campuses of the University of Washington, is an undergraduate and graduate level campus that is evolving economically, culturally, and architecturally together with the region it serves. UWT is a 46-acre, urban-serving campus that currently enrolls approximately 5,000 students. The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) was created in 2001 through a public/private partnership to address the critical demand for computing and engineering professionals in the South Puget Sound. Today, SET has 37 tenured and tenure- track faculty, 20 teaching faculty, 1 research faculty, and approximately 1,000 students. SET faculty have received research funding from federal/government grants/contracts, and industry partners. The IT program offers a Bachelor of Science in IT (BSIT), a Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT), a Master of Cybersecurity and Leadership (MCL) in partnership with the Milgard School of Business. The IT program also offers a minor in computing, open to all majors at UWT. In addition to IT, SET offers undergraduate degree programs in Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, and graduate degree programs in Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering. Qualifications
Required Education:
Candidates should have a Master’s or PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Required Work Experience:
Candidates should have a demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness or a minimum of three years of experience in a relevant field. Candidates with limited prior teaching experience must be willing to commit to an initial on-boarding process that includes guided mentoring by experienced faculty.
