The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Seattle Children's Hospital are seeking a candidate for one full-time faculty position at the rank of Acting Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will join the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine (PBMU) Team specializing in suicide and adolescent work.
The psychology team on the PBMU provides comprehensive evaluations to patients referred from the inpatient psychiatry team, ongoing training to floor staff working with specific populations, program development, consultation regarding care for complex patients, and individual and family therapy to patients identified by the team as needing more assistance. The psychology team is composed of three psychologists in different areas of specialization (Autism, Disruptive Behavior Disorders, and Suicide) and work under the direction of the Clinical Director, a psychologist and faculty member. This psychologist will work most closely with the team serving our suicidal adolescent population and efforts regarding evaluation, consultation, and program development will specifically serve this group.
The Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU) is the largest child inpatient psychiatric unit in Washington state, serves patients ages 4-17, and has 41 beds. It is the only inpatient psychiatric unit in the area that accepts patients on the Autism spectrum or with comorbid medical complexity. The PBMU has a large multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, mental health therapists, nurses, case managers, and pediatric mental health specialists as well as trainees from these various disciplines. The PBMU psychiatrists lead the interdisciplinary team to provide psychiatric evaluation and family-focused treatment to hospitalized patients.
Acting Assistant Professor appointments are for one year, renewable up to a maximum of four years, consistent with university policy.
Acting faculty hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Part-time positions are not eligible for visa sponsorship. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.
Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Research, program development and evaluation, and measurement-based care efforts in the clinic.
- In addition to providing direct clinical care, this position would involve supervision to clinical and school psychology practicum students.
- Take call responsibilities commensurate with other clinically active faculty in the Department.
- You may have other responsibilities as assigned by the Chair or Service Chief by mutual agreement.

Seattle Children’s Hospital
Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH) is a large tertiary medical center affiliated with the University of Washington School of Medicine and serving a four-state area. Seattle Children’s provides a wide continuum of programming for children in the Pacific Northwest that address community-based care and prevention. Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Health is a focus program at SCH and receives extraordinary support for its important role in the Northwest.
Salary
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Other compensation associated with this position may include an incentive through Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan.
The base salary range for an Acting Assistant Professor position will be $102,000 - $125,004 annually ($8,500 - $10,417 per month).
Qualifications
A PhD, PsyD, EdD (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field and eligibility for a Washington State license in Psychology.
APA approved internship or if internship is not APA eligible, then must meet the requirements listed in WAC 246-924-056.
