Position Description

The Department of Astronomy at the University of Washington is seeking applications for a postdoctoral research position in high-redshift extragalactic astronomy. The successful candidate will join the research group led by Prof. Arianna Long, using multiwavelength observations to study the formation and evolution of massive galaxies in the early cosmos. Successful applicants may work on a variety of different projects and datasets, including data from the JWST COSMOS-Web Treasury Program, the ALMA 2mm Ex-MORA Program, and the CHAMPS 1mm Program. Candidates with expertise in JWST and/or ALMA image manipulation, spectral energy distribution fitting, hot/warm/cold dust in distant galaxies, and/or measuring spatially resolved galaxy properties are especially encouraged to apply, though consideration will be given to a wide range of specialties. In addition to conducting research, the ideal candidate will also have a passion for mentoring and supporting the development of undergraduate and graduate students.

Appointments are 100% FTE for 24 months, renewable for an additional 12 months subject to approval and availability of funding. The base salary range for this position is $5705-$6167 per month, and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. Qualifications

 

Applicants are required to hold a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent degree in Astronomy, Physics, or related fields at the start of the position. Nominal start date is in Fall 2025, but earlier/later dates are negotiable.
