Position Description
The University of Washington Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics, and Seattle Children’s Hospital are accepting applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor on the Clinical Practice track. Anticipated start date is Winter 2024/2025
In addition to clinical work, teaching, scholarship, and service are integral to all Clinical Practice positions. The initial appointment period will be three years, at a minimum, with eligibility for renewal thereafter. Faculty on the clinical practice track hold multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Clinical Practice track appointments are not eligible for tenure.
This position will provide clinical service and consultation at the Seattle Children’s Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic (OBCC), supervision and didactic education of trainees and protected time to lead OBCC’s graduate medical education program. OBCC has multiple locations and includes Seattle’s Othello neighborhood, multiple school-based health sites and will be reopening in the heart of Seattle’s Central District in July 2025. OBCC is named after Odessa Brown (1920-1969), a Black woman who was a fierce advocate for health and racial equity in Seattle. OBCC serves as a comprehensive health home with medical, dental, mental health, nutrition early childhood development workers, community mental health workers, social work and community care coordinators. More than that, OBCC is a cornerstone and trusted partner of Seattle’s Black community and other communities of color. The multidisciplinary team works together to keep Odessa Brown’s dream of “quality healthcare with dignity” alive in our Seattle community.
The successful candidate will develop and maintain a robust primary care pediatric practice drawn from a diverse population of primarily low-income, socially vulnerable and often non-English speaking children and families. A substantial proportion is also medically complex and will need care coordination in a mature medical home environment. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, near-native fluency in at least one other language.
