Position Description

The Division of General Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington, School of Medicine is accepting applications and nominations for a Breast Surgeon at University of Washington Medical Center. The faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT), Associate Professor WOT, or Professor.  Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors WOT and Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position will have an anticipated start date in Summer/Fall 2025.

 

This position, as is the case for breast surgery faculty, will be based at UW Medical Center and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, where the breast surgeon will provide a spectrum of breast surgery services (benign and malignant) as well as participate in  multidisciplinary breast cancer clinics.

 

In addition to clinical practice, the positions will participate in the education of surgical residents, medical students, and division fellows. The positions will be expected to develop an area of scholarly expertise, as expected of every faculty member, in consultation with the Division and Section Chiefs. The University of Washington Medical Center is a nationally recognized academic medical center offering outstanding specialty and primary care. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

 

At the rank of Assistant Professor (WOT) the base salary for this position will be $28,334-$31,667 per month ($340,008-$380,004). At the rank of Associate Professor (WOT) the base salary range for this position will be $33,334-$35,417 per month ($400,008-$425,004 annually). At the rank of Professor (WOT) the base salary range for this position will be $35,834-$40,834 ($430,008-$490,008). Base salaries at all ranks will be commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the University of Washington Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position includes clinical productivity incentives through UWP. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in university benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UWP practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

Prospective candidates must have an MD (or foreign equivalent) and be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Surgery (or foreign equivalent). The candidate must also have completed or be in the process of completing either a breast fellowship or surgical oncology fellowship after general surgery residency. Must be licensed to practice medicine in Washington by the time of appointment. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
