Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and the Department of Urology at the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine is seeking a General Urologist for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-months per year, academic position at the Assistant Professor level without tenure (WOT), due to funding. This position will be based at the Veterans Health Administration and patient care efforts will occur at the VA Puget Sound. This position is paid directly by VAPSHCS and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to VAPSHCS for information about compensation for this position. Assistant professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). The anticipated start date for the position is summer 2025.
The successful candidate will practice full time at the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS), and focus on general urologic conditions and will include outpatient evaluation and management, inpatient and outpatient urological surgery, and ER consultation coverage. In addition to duties at the Seattle campus of VAPSHCS, the successful candidate may be assigned to an outreach clinic up to 1 day per week in Everett, WA. Additionally, this position will serve as the VAPSHCS site delegate for the Urology residency program. The Department of Urology has an established and high volume tertiary urologic practice, a large clinical population from the state of Washington and four neighboring states, active research programs, and an extremely strong academic urology faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in the domains of clinical care, teaching, research, service, and professionalism. They will contribute to the educational mission of the Department, and will have the opportunity to propose a research program. Participation in the UW Medicine and VAPSHCS normal faculty call schedule, which may include weekend call, is mandatory and distributed equally amongst the urology faculty.
The University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Duties of the position include demonstration clinical excellence in the management of urologic conditions. Thus, the candidate must demonstrate clinical excellence and a commitment to teach residents, fellows and students; interested applicants must propose a research program. Qualifications
This position requires the applicant to possess an MD degree (or foreign equivalent), to have completed an accredited residency in Urology (or foreign equivalent) and be a board-certified or board qualified urologist.
All candidates must be eligible for and able to maintain a Washington State medical license. Graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
