Applications are invited for a position in the Center for Quantitative Sciences program at the University of Washington, housed within the College of the Environment. The Center for Quantitative Science (CQS) houses the Quantitative Science (Q SCI) course series and undergraduate minor, as well as the Quantitative Ecology and Resource Management Interdisciplinary Graduate Program (QERM). CQS provides foundational knowledge in mathematics, statistics, computational analysis, and experimental design within an environmental and ecological sciences context, preparing students to tackle pressing environmental challenges that humanity faces. This appointment is for a full-time temporary position (100% FTE), with a 9-month service period.  There is an opportunity to renew this appointment for a second year, pending funding availability and performance. Opportunities for summer employment for course development will also be provided to the successful candidate.

The academic appointment will be based in the School of Aquatic and Fisheries Sciences, the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, or some combination of the two, depending on interests and expertise of the successful candidate. The anticipated start of the position is March 16, 2025.

The primary duties of a Lecturer Full-Time - Temporary are instructional. Specifically, for this position, the successful applicant will be expected to teach one or more classes quarterly at the Undergraduate or Graduate levels, depending on programmatic needs, and to re-design existing upper division courses in statistical analysis and modeling (Q SCI 482; Q SCI 483) to meet the needs of current students. 

The base salary range for this position will have a full-time monthly salary range of $6,800 - $7,500 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

Qualifications

We seek candidates with experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching in statistics and mathematics courses at the Undergraduate and/or Graduate levels. Applicants must have an M.S. or Ph.D. degree, or foreign equivalent, in Statistics, Mathematics, or a disciplinary degree relevant to Environmental Studies (e.g. Biology, Fisheries, Wildlife, Forestry, Natural Resources, Ecology, Evolution, Economics) with accompanying mathematical or statistical coursework and / or research applications.
