Position Description

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology is looking for a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C) to provide inpatient care on the Gynecologic Oncology Service at University of Washington Medical Cancer. The Inpatient Gynecologic Oncology Service Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be a member of the Gynecologic Oncology Service which includes physicians, fellows, residents, RNs, and APPs who provide inpatient and outpatient services to patients. The inpatient service includes postoperative patients and patients with gynecologic cancers admitted with medical diagnosesThis is a full-time, 12 month (July 1 - June 30) academic position with faculty rank as Teaching Associate in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology on a yearly appointment with an anticipated start date of March 1, 2025.

The base salary range for this position will be: $10,417 - $13,750 per month ($125,004 - $165,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Scope of Work:

  • Works under the general direction of a collaborating MD.
  • Communicates changes in patient’s health status to the patient’s primary oncologist or on-call attending
  • Provides timely post-operative and medical assessment, diagnostic evaluation, and management of gynecologic oncology inpatients using appropriate clinical guidelines.
  • Uses case management skills to collaborate with the Surgical Team, PCP, and other providers to insure coordination and continuity of care, and timely discharges, for gynecologic oncology patients across setting and over time.
  • Documents patient care data in accordance with the UWP policies
  • Participates in the appropriate interdisciplinary team meetings and serves as a resource for attending MDs, residents, staff, and patients.
  • Provides patient and/or family with health education, counseling and referrals to other health professionals and community resources as appropriate.
  • Participates as a key member of the interdisciplinary team through the development of collaborative and innovative practices.
  • Evaluates patient care and quality outcomes for the gynecologic oncology team through participation in the development of quality indicators.
  • Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice
  • Evaluates the physical and psychological state of the cancer patient. Provides support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching, counseling and advance care planning and discussion
  • Teach and mentor new ARNP or PAC-C staff and PA and/or NP students
  • Participates in patient rounds, divisional and departmental meetings, educational conferences and committees

Qualifications

  • Current and valid state Registered Nurse Licensure for ARNP or Physician Assistant Licensure.
  • Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or accredited PA program and licensure as an ARNP or PA-C.
  • Nationally certified ARNP/PA-C with active DEA.
  • Experience working with high risk patients and clinical teaching experience.
  • Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise in patient care.

All candidates must be eligible for and able to maintain a Washington State medical license. The University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Candidates will be expected to provide medical services at the University of Washington affiliated hospitals, train residents and medical students, and make academic contributions to the field.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to:

  • Training and experience in the provision of care for surgical patients, preferably in gynecology or oncology, including management of pre and post-surgical patients
  • Experience in palliative care and/or advance care planning
  • Previous APP experience in inpatient setting
  • Prior experience in Women’s Health and/or Oncology
