Situated on the ancestral and traditional territory of the dxwdәw abš (Duwamish people) and the Coast Salish peoples, the University of Washington, Seattle, College of Education, seeks to fill a nine-month, 100% FTE position for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Special Education with a focus in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)  (https://education.uw.edu/academics/program/aba-campus) beginning in September 2025. This position will be expected to engage in strong school- and community-centered research and scholarship in areas such as, but not limited to: developing and innovating culturally responsive ABA practices; developing and refining evidence-based practices to support Autistic individuals; recruiting, supporting, and sustaining a diverse ABA workforce; extending the theoretical, methodological, and applied foundations of ABA; promoting inclusive education and post-secondary transitions; and/or promoting school-based systems of interventions and support. The successful scholar will join a group of special education faculty committed to educational equity and social justice and preparing diverse and culturally responsive graduate students pursuing M.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees in Special Education, and will be expected to have active research agendas and will be expected to support the College of Education's commitment to examining and contributing to practices and policies to promote equitable educational opportunities. The base salary range for this position will be $10,189 to $11,445 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include a relocation incentive and competitive startup research package.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Our new colleague will be expected to:

• Pursue an active research agenda with a trajectory for meritorious scholarship and external funding that uses school- and community-based engagement and partnership for supporting individuals, leading to publication in major journals, and that complements current lines of applied behavior analysis research within our Special Education Program.

• Engage in scholarly work within applied behavior analysis that focuses on individuals with disabilities, their families, and communities, and also includes, incorporates, or explores issues of educational justice and equity in relation to race, culture, gender and sexuality, land, migration, ability, health, or language.

• Teach, supervise, and mentor master and doctoral students in the Special Education Program,

• Recruit, educate, and mentor graduate students from historically marginalized communities

• Collaborate with faculty to contribute to the operation and development of the program

• Provide leadership and service in the Program, College, University, and in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis and Special Education

• Engage in faculty governance within the College

Qualifications

 

All candidates must hold (1) an earned doctorate or foreign equivalent in Special Education or related field with a focus in Applied Behavior Analysis, by the date of appointment, and (2) board certification in behavior analysis (i.e., Board Certified Behavior Analyst; BCBA).
