Position Description

The School of Art Art History Design at the University of Washington welcomes applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking program with a demonstrated background in printmaking, beginning in September 2025. This position is 100% full-time and has a nine-month service period.

The University of Washington Painting, Drawing and Printmaking program has a strong history of scholarship and teaching in painting and printmaking. As a leading research 1 university, It fosters a dynamic, studio-based learning environment while reflecting and supporting a diverse and broad approach to art practice.

 

This position will imagine new perspectives and approaches in painting and printmaking within the contemporary art discourse. This position will be expected to teach the histories and current practices within painting and printmaking, based on demonstrated investment in and technical understanding of both traditional and current approaches to the respective mediums. This position will be expected to teach in one or more of the following specialties: intaglio, water-based screen print, relief print methods, and/or book arts.

 

This position will be expected to contribute to developing curriculum and pedagogy within Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking as well as the broader Art curriculum.

 

Faculty teach and work with all levels of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as students from other disciplines in the School and across the University. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship and service.

 

Salary Range: Washington State Law requires that this ad list a binding salary range. The base salary range for this position will be $9,100 - $10,400 per month on a 9-month basis ($81,900 - $93,600 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Fine Arts or another relevant field, evidence of an active professional exhibition record, and college level teaching expertise.
