Position Description

The Division of Transplant Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine is accepting applications and nominations for a full-time faculty position in transplant surgery who will work at both the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) Montlake (ML) campus, and Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH). The faculty position is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT). Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The title, salary and rank are commensurate with training, qualifications, and experience, with an expected start date in early Calendar Year 2024.

 

At the rank of Assistant Professor (WOT), the base salary range for this position will be: $30,000- $33,334 per month ($360,000 - $400,008 annually). At the rank of Associate Professor (WOT): The base salary range for this position will be: $35,000 - $39,167 per month ($420,000 - $470,004 annually). Base salary will be commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through UWP. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

The main responsibilities for this position include participating in adult and pediatric surgical transplantation procedures, clinic, selection committee, and organ recovery. The transplant surgeon will also be responsible for teaching and training of residents, fellows, and medical students. The responsibilities also include full participation the standard call schedule (adult and/or pediatric) on all abdominal organ systems.  The primary site of practice for this position will be at UWMC-ML (approximately 60% of time) with the remaining time at Seattle Children’s Hospital.  All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

 

Qualifications

Requirements for this position include:

  • MD degree (or foreign equivalent)
  • Board certified or board eligible (or foreign equivalent) by the American Board of Surgery
  • Successful completion of an accredited surgery fellowship program, pediatric abdominal transplant post-fellowship, or fellowship training with pediatric transplant 
  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in Washington by the time of appointment

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
