IAS houses eighteen undergraduate and graduate programs, is located in the Seattle metropolitan area, and provides faculty members with access to the research resources of the entire UW system. As part of a public university, we seek to build an inclusive and just community of students, faculty, and staff. Our school-wide Mission, Values, and Goals commit us to engaged scholarship, experiential learning and transformative pedagogy relevant to the diverse student populations and communities we serve.  We recognize, reflect on, and challenge unequal relations of power and privilege in our curriculum, scholarship and community partnerships.

The University of Washington Bothell is one of the most dynamic public universities in the state of Washington. We offer a participatory student experience grounded in hands-on learning, close relationships with faculty members as teachers and mentors, and the personalized support of staff who are dedicated to student success. The academic work of the campus focuses on cross-disciplinary research and creative practice, connected learning, and community engagement. UW Bothell’s current enrollment is approximately 6,000 students. More than 90 percent of undergraduates are from Washington State, and almost half are first-generation college attendees or come from underrepresented groups. Located along wetlands on a river just north of Seattle, UW Bothell builds vibrant regional partnerships, creates and disseminates new knowledge, and prepares students for leadership throughout Washington and beyond.

Diversity is a core value of UW Bothell and the School of IAS. We recognize that we are bound together in a collective experience and that our actions impact all in our community. IAS students develop their ability to live and work within and across diverse communities composed of multiple intersecting identities. Learning from the lived experiences, creative expressions and intellectual perspectives of historically-marginalized groups, students recognize and name historical and cultural relationships between power, knowledge, and difference. They develop the confidence and skills needed to transform unequal relations of power ethically and self-reflexively in order to foster greater equity.
