The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Physiatry, is hiring for an academic physiatrist to specialize in clinical informatics. This will be a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (without tenure due to source of funding, which is typical of ranked faculty appointments within the department). Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Anticipated start date is summer 2025, but other dates may be considered.
We offer a collaborative and multidisciplinary academic environment. Opportunities will be available for building an academic career with a focus on clinical informatics that also includes teaching, research, clinical care, and program development.
The successful candidate will participate in clinical care, research, teaching, and scholarship and will be expected to fulfill requirements for advancement along either the Clinician-Educator or Clinician-Scientist pathway of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine. Responsibilities will include providing clinical care for adults with cancer rehabilitation needs and leading department efforts towards building a robust learning health system to facilitate quality improvement, as well as clinical research projects including implementation of research findings into clinical practice. The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in teaching related to cancer rehabilitation, as well as clinical informatics and learning health systems for trainees and faculty. The successful candidate also will have opportunity to collaborate with existing research teams, as well as to develop their own research portfolio.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
COMPENSATION
The base salary range for this position will be $16,667 - $21,000 per month ($200,004 - $252,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include any of the following, if applicable: incentive through UW Physicians (UWP), moving allowance, relocation incentive.

The UW Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is nationally recognized for outstanding research, clinical care, and education. The department has four clinical divisions: General Physiatry, Sports & Spine Physiatry, Pediatric Rehabilitation, and Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology. Faculty provide clinical services across four UW Medicine campuses: Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake, University of Washington Medical Center-Northwest, and UW Eastside Specialty Center. More than 25 of our faculty are based at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, which are UW Medicine-affiliated organizations. The Sports & Spine division provides care at seven clinics throughout the UW Medicine system.
As one of the largest recipients of rehabilitation research funding in the country, research is a key focus of our department. Key research focus areas include limb loss, pain, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and disability. Our faculty collaborate extensively with other departments within the School of Medicine, as well as with outside institutions. In fiscal year 2023, a total of $15.7 million in research funding was awarded to departmental researchers. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), and the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)/ Administration for Community Living (ACL) were our top sponsors, comprising a total of 72% of the awards we received. In addition, our departmental faculty who are based at VA Puget Sound Health Care System have a total of $21.8 million in current funding.

Qualifications
- MD, DO, or foreign equivalent
- Eligible for full medical licensure in Washington state
- Board-certified or -eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
- Minimum 2 years of postdoctoral training in clinical bioinformatics
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
