Position Description

We are seeking a passionate, mid-career Obstetrics and Gynecology physician for the leadership position as Division Chief of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle. This is a full-time faculty member position at the Associate Professor or Professor without tenure due to funding (WOT) level. UW Medicine is the premier academic medical center in Washington state, encompasses 4 hospitals in the Seattle metro area and is the primary referral hospital for the five-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) region. The department supports a residency program, four fellowship programs, including Gynecologic Oncology, and is a major teaching site for UW medical students.  

This opportunity will be predominantly at the UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus in Seattle; however, the division also provides Gynecologic Oncology care at five other regional hospitals:  UWMC-NW, Fred Hutch Cancer Center, Harborview Medical Center, Valley Medical Center in Renton, and Evergreen Health in Kirkland.  

Joining the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at UW provides a broad scope of clinical opportunities including: advanced robotic and laparoscopic surgery, full spectrum gynecologic oncology care including chemotherapy, cutting edge oncology consultation expertise in gynecologic oncology, access to clinical trials, and providing obstetric hemorrhage/abnormal placentation surgical support.  We value multidisciplinary cancer care and involve radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology, psychiatry, social work, patient navigation, palliative care and extensive supportive services in our treatment plans. UW additionally has a strong record of supporting educators and researchers especially in grant funding within our department.

The selected candidate will be expected to provide outstanding administrative leadership to a large and complex division, and excellent clinical care. This individual would attend gynecologic oncology inpatients and outpatients, perform major and minor surgeries, administer outpatient chemotherapy, participate in call, teach medical students, residents, and fellows, and contribute to the educational mission of the department including the administration of the residency and fellowship program, surgical teaching through simulation and labs, division journal club, and didactics. This position will be required to work in a team-based setting and support the department's commitment to education, leadership, and research consistent with the academic mission of the University of Washington

Associate and Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off in addition to protected time for continuous medical education This position has an anticipated start date of January 1, 2025. 

The base salary range for this position will be $360,000 - $450,000 ($30,000 - $37,500 per month) with competitive total compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a MD degree (a foreign equivalent is acceptable) and must have completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology (a foreign equivalent is acceptable). In addition, candidates must be board certified in Gynecologic Oncology. A foreign equivalent is acceptable. Candidates must have at least six years of practical experience in a clinical setting, and a proven track record in administrative leadership.

All candidates must be eligible for and able to maintain a Washington State medical license. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
