The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) within the School of Medicine at the University of Washington invites applications for one (1) full-time faculty position at the rank of Acting Assistant Professor to join the exciting and growing Research Section on the Center of Health Workforce Studies (CHWS) team, which has long-established success in the areas of practice-based research, rural health, and health workforce.

The Center of Health Workforce Studies (CHWS) is housed in DFM with the mission to evaluate the importance of workers in the delivery of health care in policy discussions. CHWS includes two multi-year cooperative agreements grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in the areas of: (1) allied health workforce and (2) health equity and workforce diversity. CHWS has additional funding from other federal and state grants and contracts as well as foundations to conduct policy-relevant research on a wide spectrum of health professions including physicians, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and the behavioral health workforce. CHWS’s multidisciplinary team collaborates with investigators across the School of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health as well as external institutions.

The University of Washington is a recognized leader in primary care and family medicine by the U.S. News and World Report, in part due to the long-standing research relevance and productivity of the Department of Family Medicine’s Research Section. The anticipated start date for this position will be October 1, 2024, or soon thereafter.

Acting Assistant Professors hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary for this position will be $8,334 - $10,690 per month ($100,008 - $128,280 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The successful candidate will advance health workforce research both regionally and nationally. The successful candidate will also work closely with UW CHWS, WWAMI Rural Health Research Center (RHRC), Research Section faculty, the Department of Family Medicine, and external collaborators to build a strong program of research advancing our strategic mission. The successful candidate will be expected to secure external research funding and translate findings effectively to policy makers and other stakeholders. Other duties expected of the successful candidate will include mentoring our research scientists.

Qualifications

PhD or other doctoral terminal degree (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field.

In order to be eligible for university sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must be successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
