Title: Postdoctoral Scholar - Division of General Surgery, Department of Surgery

Position Details

Position Description

Essential functions or expectations of the position:

The Tumor Immune Micro-environment (TIME) lab in the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery is seeking a full-time post-doctoral scholar to study the immunological features of the cancer stroma in liver metastases of experimental colorectal cancer. The central hypotheses are that the growing metastasis recruits vascular endothelial cells, fibroblasts and immune cells from the host liver, that some of these cells undergo trans-differentiation in the metastatic context, and that immunosuppressive mechanisms native to the liver are thereby active in the metastasis. The anticipated start date is October 1, 2024.

The job requires established hands-on research skills in small animal immunology, including mouse genetics, animal handling, microscopy, flow cytometry, immune cell isolation and tests of immune function. The work will involve using double-transgenic experimental animals in which fluorescent lineage-tracing reporters identify specific cell types in the cancer stroma; cell and organ harvest, cell isolation using tissue homogenization and flow cytometric cell sorting, cell culture and the measurement of cytokines. There will be the opportunity to learn additional skills including living tissue microscopy, confocal microscopy, single cell RNA sequencing and digital spatial genomics and proteomics. The work will also involve data analysis, the preparation of written research documents including manuscripts for publication, and the presentation of the results at local, national and international meetings.

The TIME lab is a highly interactive group of basic scientists and surgeon-scientists who address issues related to cancer and the immune system. We are networked with the vibrant Seattle immunology community through the Department of Immunology, the Benaroya Institute, Seattle Children’s Research Institute and the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Institute. Find our recent work through PubMed using the search terms “Pillarisetty AND Crispe” and “Soysa AND Crispe”. Please direct informal inquiries to Dr. Crispe (crispen@uw.edu) and include a succinct CV that documents your academic history, scientific work and publications to date.

The base salary range for this position will be $68,460-$74,760 per year ($5,705-$6,230 per month), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.
