The University of Washington’s Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering (Allen School) invites applications for a Part-Time Lecturer position. This position is supported jointly by the interdisciplinary Masters in Data Science Program (MSDS) and the Allen School. Responsibilities in MSDS include directing the capstone program, including teaching the capstone course, actively participating in the admissions process, recruiting industry sponsors, organizing capstone teams, and more. Additional responsibilities in MSDS may involve course instruction as needed and participation in program-management activities such as curriculum redesign and student events. Responsibilities in the Allen School will involve teaching two courses per year.
We expect this position to be 90% FTE. It is a 9-month (academic year) appointment, but summer funding for MSDS responsibilities is likely to be available on an ongoing basis.
The anticipated start date is December 16, 2024. Initial contract length is expected to be two years.
Responsibilities

Teach two Allen School courses each academic year

Teach the MSDS capstone courses each academic year

Direct and manage the entire annual MSDS capstone annual cycle from recruiting capstone sponsors through ensuring student project completion

Plan capstone events

Participate in MSDS program leadership, including roles in curriculum management, admission, and student events.
The base salary for this position will be 90% of $12,000-$13,500 per month (i.e., $10,800-$12150 per month) for a 9-month service period, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications are:

Master's degree (or foreign equivalent)

Relevant teaching experience in both project-based courses and computing courses
Desired qualification are:

PhD degree

Experience directing capstone programs or similar, including industry engagement

Experience in managing admissions in a data science master's degree program

Curricular-program leadership experience
-
Multiple years of computing-course teaching experience

Leadership and/or teaching experience in a graduate-level data-science program
