The University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is seeking one (1) Assistant Professor without tenure (WOT) due to funding at 1.00 FTE for the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) and Harborview Medical Center (HMC). The Department of Emergency Medicine encompasses the UWMC main, the UWMC-Northwest Hospital (NWH), and the Harborview Medical Center Emergency Departments.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1 - June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024 or thereafter. Duties include the teaching of trainees, supervision of the emergency medical services research team, maintaining a comprehensive out-of-hospital cardiac arrest registry hosted in REDCap, and leading emergency medical services quality improvement and patient safety initiatives for the Seattle Fire Department and the Medic One program. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The UW DEM supports a 4-year Emergency Medicine Residency Program and several fellowships.

The base salary for this position will be $10,613 – $12,917 per month ($127,356 - $155,004 per annum) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determination and calculations. Other compensation may include a relocation incentive and administrative supplement dependent upon your role within the department.

Qualifications

  • Candidates for this position must hold a PhD (or foreign equivalent) degree with a focus in Health Services.
  • Candidates must have five or more years of experience leading emergency medical services (EMS) quality improvement initiatives for an urban EMS organization with at least 80,000 annual EMS responses.
  • Candidates must have one or more years of experience supervising a team managing an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest registry with at least 400 patients annually.
  • Candidates must have one or more years of experience creating and maintaining REDCap databases.
