Position Description

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle is seeking a full-time faculty member trained in fetal diagnosis and surgery at the Assistant Professor without tenure due to funding (WOT) level for an academic appointment. This position would provide leadership as the co-director of our joint fetal therapy and diagnosis program with Seattle Children’s Hospital. UW Medicine is the premier academic medical center in Washington state, encompasses 4 hospitals in the Seattle metro area and is the primary referral hospital for the five-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) region. The department supports a residency program, four fellowship programs and is a major teaching site for UW medical students.

This opportunity will be at the UW Montlake Campus and at Seattle Children’s Hospital. The division also provides care at five satellites each week, 24-hour Labor & Delivery coverage, and a high-volume telemedicine program. If desired, academic time for education and research may be negotiated.

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at UW provides a broad scope of clinical opportunities including treating the most complicated fetal anomalies and maternal conditions in a diverse patient population from a large geographic area, working on an extremely high acuity labor floor, engaging in a unique collaboration with midwifery services, subspecialists in complex maternal conditions, and leading a growing fetal surgery and diagnosis program. UW additionally has a strong record of supporting educators and researchers, especially in grant funding within our department.

Candidates will co-direct the joint UW/SCH Fetal surgery and diagnostic program and lead the continued development and implementation of our joint strategic growth plan. Candidates will be expected to perform outpatient obstetrical imaging and work in high-volume inpatient and outpatient clinical practices work. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in program development, engage in collaborative multidisciplinary work, and support the academic mission of UW Medicine to improve the health of the public through education and research. The successful candidate will benefit from the strong research infrastructure and interdisciplinary culture that exists within our department and the broader UW community. In addition, candidates are expected to perform fetal surgery as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.

The base salary range for this position will be: $400,000 – 500,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range includes base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan and base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in the university benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MD degree (a foreign equivalent is acceptable) and must have completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology (a foreign equivalent is acceptable). In addition, candidates must be board eligible, or board certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and have completed a fetal surgery fellowship. A foreign equivalent is acceptable. Candidates must demonstrate excellent clinical skills and prior experience and success in program development.

All candidates must be eligible for and able to maintain a Washington State medical license. To be eligible for university sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
