Dr. Steven Roberts’s lab at the University of Washington (the Roberts. Lab), seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Scholar in the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS). The position is supported by internal funding from the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences. The candidate hired into this position will have the opportunity to work on state of the art research projects with diverse collaborators on efforts aimed at better understanding the impact of environmental conditions on aquatic species.

 

The Roberts Lab is dedicated to providing an environment for post-docs to build professional and research skills.

 

The project will involve: 

  • Coordinating and overseeing environmental exposure experiments with shellfish
  • Carrying out field assessment of shellfish at outplant sites (requires regional travel)
  • Performing genomic analysis on multiple marine species aimed at better understanding environmental influences
  • Writing and publishing manuscripts as well as publishing research activity throughout projects in online notebook

The base salary range for this position will be $5,705 per month to $6,000 per month, commesurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

 

Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.

 

University of Washington Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are for a temporary, defined period not to exceed five years/60 months, including any previous postdoctoral experience. The initial appointment will be 100% FTE for one year, with potential renewal for a second year. 

 

Qualifications

Mandatory Qualifications:

Candidates will have a confirmed Ph.D. at the time of appointment, in a relevant discipline (e.g., marine biology, biology, genomics).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience generating and analyzing large genomic dataset from oysters or related species
  • Experience in sampling shellfish
  • Consistent sharing of research analysis code and data
  • Experience with bioinformatics command line tools for comparative genomics and transcriptomics analysis
  • Experience in population genomics analysis
