Position Details

Position Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP) at the University of Washington (UW) seeks candidates for tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. We are seeking a full-time investigator in HIV/AIDS. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in research in HIV/AIDS regarding such topics as pathogenesis, vaccines, co-infections, and persistence. Opportunities are available for research directions that involve developing and implementing preclinical nonhuman primate models and/or single cell techniques. This position in the DLMP aligns with unique resources available at the Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC), one of only seven such NIH-supported centers established in 1959 to provide specialized resources and expertise to carry out preclinical and translational research impacting human health. Applicants with a research program employing nonhuman primate models could have the opportunity to be considered for a joint appointment as core faculty at WaNPRC.

The DLMP will provide ample support to the candidate, including generous start-up resources and renovated laboratory space, that will promote their long-term success. The DLMP is a large, diverse department that houses cutting edge clinical laboratory testing and diagnostics, excellence in anatomic and clinical pathology, as well as innovative basic and translational research across broad topics supported by abundant external funding. Our department offers a uniquely collegial and collaborative environment, with diverse interdisciplinary research ties across campus and with neighboring institutions. Please visit us at https://dlmp.uw.edu/about/about-us.

The successful candidate would be expected to develop and maintain a vibrant research program funded by extramural sources that adds value and dimension to the robust research that exists within the DLMP. The successful candidate would also be expected to actively participate in teaching and mentoring of trainees, with the opportunity to become faculty in several diverse graduate programs, including Molecular Mechanisms of Disease PhD program and the Medical Laboratory Scientist Master’s program, both of which are housed in the DLMP and provide many opportunities for mentoring and interacting with young clinical and research scientists. The candidate would also be expected to celebrate and join our commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable culture in DLMP by teaching, mentoring, working with, and collaborating with a broad community of individuals with varying backgrounds and experiences.

Positive factors that may be considered include, but are not limited to:

  • Record of peer-reviewed publications describing original research in a field related to HIV/AIDS
  • Success in obtaining extramural funding or the potential to obtain extramural funding
  • Demonstration of activities to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Interest in collaboration and desire to grow HIV/AIDS research and related areas in the DLMP

The DLMP values justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are actively engaged in maintaining an inclusive, transparent, and equitable culture. The DLMP is also committed to diversifying our faculty at all ranks. Applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply. We especially encourage applications from women and minority candidates, individuals with disabilities, and people from groups that are underrepresented in Science and Medicine. We look forward to learning how the applicant’s values, experiences, and vision will contribute to expanding HIV/AIDS research within the DLMP.
